The 4K 240Hz Reality Check
No GPU in 2026 can natively sustain 240 FPS at 4K in modern AAA games at high settings. Not even flagship silicon. The most powerful consumer GPU averages 100–160 FPS at native 4K in demanding 2026 titles — impressive, but roughly 60–100 FPS short of saturating a 240Hz panel.
This doesn't mean a 4K 240Hz monitor is wasted on current hardware. The 240Hz ceiling provides headroom for less demanding games and future GPU generations. DisplayPort 2.1 & Bandwidth
4K at 240Hz requires approximately 71.5 Gbps of bandwidth — far beyond DisplayPort 1.4's 32.4 Gbps capacity. You need DisplayPort 2.1 (UHBR20, 80 Gbps) to carry this signal natively without compression.
Current-gen flagship GPUs include DP 2.1 outputs. Most high-end GPUs include DP 2.1 as well. If your GPU only has DP 1.4, you're limited to 4K at approximately 144Hz with DSC (Display Stream Compression) — still excellent, but not the full 240Hz experience.
